Tax Relief Resolution Passed

RESOLUTION 2020-05
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS OF EAST PENNSBORO TOWNSHIP, CUMBERLAND COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA PROVIDING REAL PROPERTY TAX RELIEF FOR THE PAYMENT OF 2020 TOWNSHIP REAL ESTATE TAXES DUE TO THE COVID-19 DISASTER EMERGENCY. 

          WHEREAS, by Act 15 of 2020 (the "Act"), enacted April 20, 2020 East Pennsboro Township, as a Taxing District authorized by laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania to impose and collect real property tax, was given the option to provide certain real property tax relief as a result of the COVID-19 disaster emergency; and

          WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners by Ordinance No. 812-2019 established real property tax rates for 2020, allowing for a discount for earlier payment and a penalty for late payment of such taxes; and

          WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners of East Pennsboro Township believes such authority provided through the Act should be exercised due to the devastating economic impact the COVID-19 disaster has had to those owning real property in Cumberland County.

          NOW THEREFORE, it is hereby RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of East Pennsboro Township as follows and limited to real estate taxes of 2020:

    1. East Pennsboro Township's prescribed penalty rate of ten per centum ( 10%) for the late payment of real property tax is hereby waived for the period beginning July 1, 2020 through and including October 31, 2020 provided the full amount of the tax due at the face amount is paid on or before October 31, 2020. Commencing November 1, 2020, the penalty rate of ten per centum (10%) shall be assessed.

    2. This Resolution shall become effective May 6, 2020.
