creekside construction

East Pennsboro Township has a first rate, 15 member highway department. We’re one of the few municipalities in the region that paves and maintains most of its own roads, a cost savings to taxpayers. Top notch crews do an outstanding job of maintaining more than 70 miles of Township roads and streets annually, as well as picking up leaves in the fall and clearing snow in the winter.

The sewer department, meanwhile, consists of 14 employees who operate and maintain an increasingly sophisticated and recently upgraded 4.4 million gallon Township Sewage Treatment Plant, 13 pump stations, and many miles of underground wastewater lines throughout the Township.

Trash service is provided weekly through a private contractor, and includes curbside recycling and pickup of large items such as old furniture and appliances. Large items can also be disposed of at other times by scheduling a pickup by Penn Waste or by obtaining a permit at the township office and dropping off the item(s) at the old Public Works Building ( 750 S. Humer Street) on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month (7am to noon). Used motor oil from autos and lawnmowers can be dropped off for recycling at Public Works Building (645 Tower Road) Monday through Friday (7am to 3pm)

2008 DCNR Gypsy Moth Spray Program
Spray operations begin in late April to early May depending on caterpillar hatch, foliage and weather. In 2007, the first day of spraying was May 7. The best way to know when and what area is scheduled is to check the vector webpage. It will post daily schedules as they are made available to vector control.    link: www.ccpa.net/vector

Spray Expectations/Results
The Bureau of Forestry spray goal is “to prevent defoliation in excess of 30% on 80% or more of the highly favored host trees. Therefore, it would be misleading for the homeowner to believe that because they are included in the spray area that all gypsy moth caterpillar associated problems will cease completely after spraying. Some will still find caterpillars to be a nuisance and in other cases experience minor defoliation (where very high caterpillar populations exit).
Homeowners can find tips to address gypsy moth problems on the County Vector website, where there are additional links to DCNR Bureau of Forestry facts and information.  link: www.ccpa.net/vector

Municipal Yard Waste Management Assistance Program
To reduce the amount of material going into our landfills, East Pennsboro Township has constructed a yard waste facility, which is located on South Humer Street. Penn Waste, the township municipal waste contractor, provides yard waste collection on your regularly scheduled trash day. Tree trimmings, shrubbery and other organic landscape vegetation are considered “Yard Waste” materials. These items should NOT be placed in plastic bags but should be placed in a separate container or you can purchase biodegradable Kraft bags. Bundles of materials should be no longer than four (4 ‘) feet in length and should not weight more than 30 lbs. The Township crews chip and compost these items and then offer, free of charge, the mulch or compast to our township residents. Currently we have mulch and compost available for pickup at 750 South Humer Street. The facility is opened on the first and third Saturdays from 7:00am to Noon.

Residents are reminded of our Township Ordinance not allowing your pet to desecrate or befoul any sidewalk, walkway, or property of another. Be considerate of your neighbors and bring along a disposal bag and pick up after your animal. Dogs must be under immediate control of their owners at all times. According to Township park ordinance, all pets must be on a leash not more than six (6) feet long, with the exception of a seeing eye dog for the visually handicapped while in the park. Owners must cleanup all animal waste deposited by their pet. The Township now provided “mutt mitts” for pet owners walking in Adams-Ricci Community Park. These mutt mitts are disposable bags for owners to pick up after their animals.
