ADAMS-RICCI PARK CABOOSE

The people of East Pennsboro Township are proud of their heritage that started, in Enola, with the building of the Enola Yard along the Susquehanna River. The Yard is a large freight classification system build in 1905 to serve the region and ready trains for travel to the West.

To honor this hertigage, the Township acquired a 1942 vintage Caboose once used on the Pennsylvania Railroad. Many of the men who rode the trains were residents of Enola and East Pennsboro Township.

The Picture gallery below gives you a good idea how the Caboose got to it’s home near the South entrance of Adams-Ricci Park. Click on a picture to see a larger version and you can view the gallery using the arrows on the large pictures.

NAIL WORKS EXHIBIT

We have another historical exhibit getting ready for construction that reflects the our heritage. The Harrisburg Nail Works employed many people in West Fairview from 1831 till approximately 1890. The Historical Society has acquired a nail machine similar to the ones that would have been in our Nail Works. It will become a permanent display at the North end of Adams-Ricci Park, in 2008. The picture to the right is a drawing of the building being constructed to house the Nail Machine and related displays.

We also have a beautiful statue called the

  CIRCLE OF PEACE
honoring several young adults who were taken early in life.
The statue portrays children at play, without worry or care.
The sculptor purposely made the statue open
so children can touch and feel it.

The walkway leading to the statue has paving blocks
engraved with the names of the children who died before
their time. When you visit Adams-Ricci park,
please stop for a moment of reflection.
