East Pennsboro Township has approved an Ordinance governing residential rental property inspection. This ordinance is aimed at maintaining the upkeep of rental units and keeping those who dwell in apartments and rental properties safe.

Inspections will be conducted once every three years and will help ensure that renters in the township are afforded clean, safe and sanitary living conditions.  Inspectors will be on the look out for code violations, chipping paint, water damage, plumbing leaks, infestation, electrical hazards and any other unsanitary or unsafe conditions.

Cost of the inspection program is $ 25.00 per unit, per year and it is the responsibility of the owner of the rental unit.  Using current voting districts of the township as a guide (see map), first year inspections will be conducted in the Enola and Upper Precincts.  The second year of the inspections will include Summerdale and West Fairview.  The third year will cover the lower East and Lower West precincts.  Based on the current number of rental units, more than 2,500 inspections are expected to be conducted during the three year cycle.
